75102 – Poe’s X-Wing Fighter
Force Friday™ brought us a whole new arrangement of Star Wars® merchandise, and amongst the array were a number of brand new Star Wars® Lego® sets. Included in the mix of sets is the dramatic black X-wing belonging to a new character, Poe.
The Intro
This striking set is a new iteration of the famous starship, this time rendered in a sleek looking black with orange highlights. If you’re even remotely a fan of the X-Wing fighter, you’ll want to get one of these excellent sets.
The box is standard size for the X-Wings, and includes an instruction manual, brick separator, 5 numbered baggies and a sticker sheet.
The Build
The first build establishes the heart of the set, as well as some minifigures and the accessories (a ladder and an ancillary supply cart).
There are no particular challenges in the initial build, however attention to the part colouring is recommended as the dark grey and brown 1×2 parts can be a little deceiving. This part of the build also establishes the base of the technic gears. The second bag builds upon the base, establishing the outer hull and the nose of the fighter. The front is similar to previous X-Wing builds.
The third bag includes the remainder of the cockpit which mercifully includes a fully printed part! By the end of the third bag, we have most of the main hull, minus the wings. The fourth bag predictably builds the first wing, using the now familiar rubber bands to hold the upper and lower wing blades together. There are the odd stickers to help ring the engine intake with orange bands.
The fifth and final bag builds the second set of wings, and also provides the engines for the rear of the craft. The missiles are also included in this bag and you’ll use up the remaining stickers.
The Completed Set
Well, there’s no doubt about it, it’s a striking set. It’s possible it might be larger than previous Lego X-Wings, and the figures are highly detailed. If you’re only going to get one Force Awakens Star Wars Lego set, this is a strong contender.
